Is the facade armor or a cage?
A few days ago, I finished reading Teenager by Bud Smith, with illustrations by Rae Buleri. I had to tell my kids I cried because it was so beautiful. Go read that book if you've ever realized that teenagers are smarter (and sometimes dumber) than everyone else. Teenagers are still childlike because they see through or around the facades that adults have built to keep functioning. Sometimes the facade is actually armor. But sometimes, it's a cage.
My brain is speaking to me in riddles. I hope you are taking care of yourself and being cared for wherever you are today.
Reading: Termite Parade by Joshua Mohr (it's out of print but I found it on eBay). Taste Makers by Mayukh Sen. The Peeler by Flannery O'Connor (link is to a PDF of her complete stories). What happens when an affluent Arizona suburb’s main water supply is cut off?
Writing: Chipping away at the same short story.
Cooking: Roasting carrots, zucchini, tomatoes. Sunny side up egg over a mix of rice, corn, beans, tomatoes, and mushrooms on toast. Lots of oranges. No scurvy here.
