Reading
The same roster of books as last week, with the addition of The Blue Plate: A Food Lover's Guide to Climate Chaos by Mark Easter. Tune in two weeks from now to see if I’ve finished any books! Otherwise, I’ve been readings submissions to Rose Books Reader, and, unrelated, thousands of words in birth and death records on the Ancestry app.
Some essential newsletters I’ve read lately:
invisible labour, invisible food costs by
Indulgences and The Consumer Imaginary by
For the Love of Olives and Palestine by
The World's Most Lethal Fighting Force by
A Dream of Gold and Green by Ana Kinsella for
Writing
I submitted a grant report and an assignment in the last few weeks. Now I’m working on final preparations for the panel I’m hosting at ASU’s writing conference next week titled, “Do It Together: The Possibilities of Collaborative Publishing.” I’m really looking forward to asking Charissa and Vic of Paper Jam + Print questions about how they run their print shop. And if you’re local, I’m going to be reading at an offsite event on Thurs Oct 10 at 7pm at Neighborhood Services Bar + Restaurant if you want to come by.

Eating
Donuts from my favorite local shop, BoSa. (In college I wrote an essay about them for the student newspaper. The love is longstanding.) Cabbage that I seared then braised in a soy, gochujang, and garlic broth. Barrio Bread’s mesquite baguette with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. And I finally made farinata (from Extra Good Things) for dinner last night. We had it with jammy onions, hard boiled eggs, an artichoke dip from Costco, roasted carrots and salad — and will be repeating!
The Good Enough Weekly comes out on Fridays, alternating essays and shorter updates. I also take on freelance editing and writing projects. Reach out if you’re looking for help in those departments — I’ve worked on everything from zines to textbooks. More info here.
thank you for the shoutout! this is a powerhouse list of essays -- also thank you for inspiring my friday treat being a donut haha.
BoSa! Makes me miss phx 😭
